Tucked at the quieter end of the Monterey Peninsula, Pacific Grove is a place defined by what it lacks: no neon signs, no high-rise chains, and no sense of urgency. Monarch Resort sits at the heart of this landscape—a ten-minute walk from the rocky shoreline of Lover's Point and less than a mile from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
“Pacific Grove is the last refuge of unhurried California. We exist to protect that feeling.”
Each October, tens of thousands of monarch butterflies complete their extraordinary migration and winter in the ancient eucalyptus grove just two blocks from our front door — the Pacific Grove Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is one of the largest overwintering sites on the continent. Guests often discover the spectacle by accident, returning awestruck from a morning walk.
A short stroll in the opposite direction brings you to Point Pinos Lighthouse, the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States, its Fresnel lens still turning above the rocky headland. The tide pools below are among the most biodiverse in California — a living catalogue of Pacific marine life at your feet.
Monarch Resort Hotel is not merely close to these wonders. It is part of the landscape that makes them meaningful — a place from which to venture out and, more importantly, a place to return.
