Monarch Resort > Attractions > 17 Mile Drive
The 17 Mile Drive is a scenic route that runs from Monterey to Carmel. Starting in Pacific Grove, the road follows the Pacific Coast line, through the exclusive Pebble Beach area and then loops back via the Del Monte Forest.
The most scenic section (around 10 miles) is from the Pacific Grove Gate (located less than two miles from the Monarch Resort) to the Carmel Gate. Upon entry, you will be given a useful map which highlights the main points of interest along the way. The cost to enter the area is $9.50 per car and the unparalleled coastal scenery makes it worth every penny. Motorcycles are prohibited from entering 17-Mile Drive, but bicyclists and pedestrians are admitted for free.
There are approximately 20 stops along the well marked route, each with a landmark of interest and paved parking for your vehicle. You will experience breathtaking landmarks from the trademark Lone Cypress tree, which has been sitting alone on its rocky perch for over 250 years; to the Restless Sea, Seal Rock, Spanish Bay, the world famous Pebble Beach Golf links and Spyglass Hill. If the names of these places don't yet evoke emotion to the active imagination, the sights, sounds and smells surely will do the trick. Bird Rock is home to a vast variety of shorebirds, seals and sea lions and is a watch-able wildlife dream. Daylight hours are perfect guarantees to get the stunning photos--but if your schedule permits the awesome sunsets should not to be missed.
The Monarch Resort, Monterey Bay is the perfect base for exploring this breathtaking natural beauty. Check out the details of our “Photo Safari Package” and reserve your stay now.
